On Peace Day we celebrate our peaceful community and showcase Tofino as a unique Canadian community with a history of effective peaceful protest. As a nuclear-free zone and a United Nations Biosphere Reserve, Tofino is a wonderful Canadian example of a community dedicated to a peaceful lifestyle. Endorsed and fully supported by the United Nations; a major goal of Peace One Day.org is to establish a global ceasefire for one day each year.in order to bring humanitarian and medical aid to the victims of war. Another goal of the day is to increase the global awareness of Peace processes, and to raise global consciousness of the importance of all people working for world peace. Peace begins within the self, the family and the community. In Tofino we celebrate our effective peaceful protestors who used peaceful methods to bring about a cessation to the destruction of Clayoquot Sound by international logging companies. The Friends of Clayoquot Sound will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their peaceful actions for Clayoquot Sound at Peace Day Tofino.
